On June 2, 2023, Prime Video released a limited television documentary series titled Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. This project highlights the controversies this infamous family has been involved in. Plus, it even highlights the Duggar family’s questionable relationship with the Life Basics Institute. The Fundamentals of Life Institute is a fundamentalist Christian organization that many believe operates like a cult.
After the revelation that one of the family members, Josh Duggar, was a sex offender, the TLC show called 19 Kids and Counting was canceled. In addition, some members of this large family have even cut ties with them. The Prime Video documentary only features Jill Duggar and her husband, Derick Dillard.
According to Distractify, the aforementioned couple became estranged from the Duggar family for financial reasons. However, Distractify also reported that another reason for this decision was morality.
