Another couple, Antwon Mans and Cynthia Mans, welcomed Natalia Grace in 2014 after someone abandoned her. They sought to become his legal guardians in 2016, but were turned down. Reports stated that Antwon and Cynthia had to prove Natalia’s minor status. A hearing was held to verify Natalia’s legal adult status, and the duo submitted medical reports as proof. However, the judge maintained that Natalia was an adult. Therefore, Antwon and Cynthia had to withdraw the guardianship application.

Despite this, Cynthia and Antwon persisted in caring for Natalia and treating her like family. The couple eventually became his new adoptive parents. In 2019, Cynthia and Antwon claimed that Natalia never displayed violent behavior towards their family. During their appearance on Dr. Phil, they maintained that they took her in while she was still a minor.
