Vir Das wins Best Comedy Award for Vir Das: Landing

In a momentous triumph for Indian comedy, Vir Das received the prestigious International Emmy Award for Best Comedy. The famous comedian and actor, known for his immense contributions to the Indian comedy scene, won this honor for his Netflix special, For Das: Landing.

Vir Das is notably the first Indian actor to receive this award.

International Emmy Awards 2023: Vir Das wins Best Comedy with Derry Girls

Das, recognized as a pioneer of the modern stand-up scene in India, expressed his joy over the victory, calling it “an incredible honor that feels like a dream”. This victory marks Vir Das’ second International Emmy nomination.

Additionally, he co-starred with the popular British teen sitcom Derry Girls season 3. The duo was partnered with Frenchman Le Flambeau and Argentinian El Encargado.

Das’ journey in the world of comedy has been nothing short of remarkable. He has performed over 100 stand-up shows and appeared in over 15 films. The comedian usually brags about the former.

Reflecting on his achievement, Das said, “My journey from creating local stories to receiving a global accolade has been both challenging and rewarding, and Netflix has been instrumental in this growth. I am excited about the continued exploration of diverse narratives, from Noida to the International Emmys – India takes you there.

Vir Das further added the importance of such award ceremonies. He said: “What I love about these awards shows is that you have allowed a comedian to punch way above his weight. If you think about it, I’m nominated for “Derry Girls,” which is a massive multi-million dollar series, and these other gigantic fiction shows. And I’m just a guy on a stool.

The International Emmy Awards also saw nominations for Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh. The duo was recognized for their outstanding performances in Delhi Crime Season 2 and Rocket Boys, respectively.
