The series is produced by McMillan, Yvette Lee Bowser and Washington alongside Pilar Savone, through their production company Simpson Street, and Lindo. “The story of UnPrisoned is the reality for millions of families who are impacted by the criminal justice system in the United States,” according to an official press release. “According to the ACLU, mass incarceration has increased 500 percent over the past 50 years, with more than 2 million people incarcerated in this country today. With this series, McMillan creates flawed but lovable characters from a place of empathy, humor, and soul to honor the families that mass incarceration affects the most.
All eight episodes of UnPrisoned Season 1 are available to stream exclusively on Hulu in the United States, Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in all other territories.
