“This cello is a real find… those who hear it cry…” Destiny Entertainment has released an official trailer for a mystery horror film titled The cellothe latest film from the famous horror filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman (of Saw II & III & IV; Rest! The Genetic Opera, Slaughterhouse, Death of me, spiral). It is actually a Saudi production, featuring the story of a talented Saudi cellist. According to the book by Turki Al Alshikh, The cellostars Jérémie Fers, Tobin Bell (THE Saw series), Syrian actor Samer Ismail (The day I lost my shadow, on borrowed time) and Saudi actress Elham Ali (Ashman, zero distance), in the story of an aspiring cellist who discovers that the price of his brand new cello is much more insidious than he initially thought. The film was shot in Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic. It almost feels like a live-action horror version of that fantastic Futurama episode “The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Toys”, where Fry trades with the devil’s (robot) hands so that he can play his music better, but of course it comes with fatal consequences. This is a very strange trailer for The cello it barely shows pictures of it – take a look anyway.

Like many musicians, Saudi cellist Nasser (Samer Ismail) aspires to greatness, even as he feels held back by the dilapidated old instrument he is forced to play. When Nasser is offered the chance to take possession of a magnificent red cello by a mysterious merchant (Tobin Bell), he finds new inspiration for both his playing and his composition. What Nasser doesn’t realize is that this cello has a nefarious past. As he prepares for an important audition with a prominent philharmonic player, that past manifests itself in the form of a former conductor (Jeremy Irons) and the suffering and death of those close to him. Nasser must now decide if realizing his dreams is worth the horror of playing such a perfect instrument.
