Reva’s force powers in Obi-Wan Kenobi caused real damage to Kumail Nanjiani

If you recall, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) hears of someone who might be a Jedi who could help him, but it’s Haja he finds. At one point, Reva uses her own Force powers (she was a child training to be a Jedi when the Purge took place) to pin Haja against a wall. The Disney+ special shows this moment, and phew, it looks like it hurts. Nanjiani said:

“I was pushed by the Force against a wall much harder than I thought. I’m very padded and it was awesome, but also, I forget what day it is. It’s just really fun to play a guy who pretends to be a Jedi. I re-watched all the “Star Wars” movies in preparation. And then I thought, okay, that’s probably all this guy knows, so his Force gestures and The way he behaves as a Jedi, it’s very theatrical. Because the people he’s dealing with probably haven’t met a Jedi either, so it’s just his version of things.

First, it looks painful. Second, he has a very good point about how most people never meet a Jedi in their lives. This is one of the things that we often forget in the “Star Wars” universe. Granted, the original films and prequels didn’t really focus on what the average person in the galaxy was experiencing far, far away. It’s really only with certain Disney+ shows that we see what it’s like for someone who is just trying to live their life without interference. The Jedi would probably be nothing more than legend to them. It’s pretty cool to see what the average person thought you might look like.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” and all “Star Wars” shows and movies are currently streaming on Disney+.
