Matt Damon played Jason Bourne in four of the five films and has become somewhat synonymous with the franchise (no shade, Jeremy Renner). According to Deadline’s sources, “As always, everything has to be executed perfectly for Damon to even consider returning to the franchise and that starts with a great script and story and so for now, no commitment from his leaves until this is all over.” “His last appearance as the character was in 2016’s “Jason Bourne,” when Damon was in his 40s. That’s not to say he still can’t pull off a “Bourne” performance in his 50s, but it could change how the character is presented in the story.
Personally, I prefer a “Bourne” movie where he’s brought back into the business after taking a few years off to start his life as David Webb again, only to be sucked back into it again. I really enjoyed “The Equalizer 3” with Denzel Washington’s grizzled Robert McCall killing one last time so he can finally retire in peace, and I’d definitely enjoy the same thing with Jason Bourne from about fifty years. Then again, if Damon chooses not to return, it’s unclear where this story will go. Hoping that he has already been contacted and that he does not discover this new film through the trades.
This story is developing.
