A legacy sequel wouldn’t be complete without introducing a younger generation into the mix. The two at the center of this film are Joseph Gordon Levitt as Foley’s new partner (who Jerry Bruckheimer says is a wonderful straight man for Eddie Murphy to bounce off) and Taylour Paige as Foley’s daughter, a criminal defense attorney who kicks off the story. motion by involving his father in a new affair.
Kevin Bacon is also new to the series and he will play an antagonist of sorts. According to Empire, Bacon plays an officer in a special LAPD unit, so it’s unclear whether he’ll be the real big bad or just the heavy one riding Foley for not following the rules.
Is the world clamoring for another “Beverly Hills Cop” movie? I’m not sure, but then again, most also didn’t expect “Top Gun: Maverick” to be as huge as it was. This film was also produced by Bruckheimer, and from the sounds of things, it strikes a similar balance between nostalgia and fresh feelings. Speaking to Empire, Bruckheimer complimented the humor and comedy of the new “Beverly Hills Cop” film, but emphasizes that “it’s about emotion.”
This is about as vague as it gets, but I know I wish there was another worthy addition to Axel Foley’s legacy.
