Gaza fighting intensifies as hostage deal takes shape

Israel has stepped up its offensive in northern Gaza ahead of a possible deal with Hamas that would see the Palestinian militant group release dozens of hostages in exchange for a partial pause in fighting.

Possible deal comes amid growing domestic pressure on PM Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to secure the release of more than 200 Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas and other militants during the group’s attack on Israel on October 7.
