Ford scales back Michigan battery plant plan, citing slower electric vehicle demand

Ford engine is moving forward with the construction of a battery factory in Michigan, but at a reduced size compared to initial plans, citing a decline in the outlook for future demand for electric vehicles.

In September, Ford suspended work at the Marshall, Michigan, plant. At the time, the company said it was reassessing its ability to competitively operate the factory, which will make batteries using technology from China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co.
