The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Bernie Madoff on December 11, 2008. On June 29, 2009, the court sentenced him to 150 years in prison.

According to AP, during his sentencing, former investor Tom Fitzmaurice told the judge: “He stole from the rich. He stole from the poor. He had no value. He swindled money from his victims so that he and his wife… could live a life of luxury beyond belief.

Bernie Madoff died at Federal Medical Center in Butner on April 14, 2021, from chronic kidney disease. At the time of his death, he was 82 years old.
