There’s nothing better than walking around in cool fall weather with a hot coffee in your hand, unless it’s coffee you’ve made yourself at home with shiny new coffee equipment. Black Friday coffee deals are here, and it’s the perfect time to score savings on the tools you need to upgrade your rig, whether it’s an espresso machine or from a French press. Café Affetto is what sold me fully automated espresso machines. You fill it with beans and water, and that’s it. He does everything else. No espresso tamping, no grinding, but you will still need to position your milk pitcher under the steam wand. Everything else is handled by the machine. Having a machine that can dispense a perfect Americano with just one touch is something of a game changer.
This humble little espresso machine is quite capable of not only brewing great coffee, but also steaming your milk for you. It’s semi-automated and to achieve this it has a milk container that you fill and store in the fridge, not on the counter, unless you want your coffee to have a funky edge. During testing, WIRED contributor Jeffrey Van Camp found that you need to keep the container pretty clean, deep cleaning it at least once a week. But other than that, it’s a pretty solid little machine, especially for anyone who’s in a rush in the morning.
This is the cheaper version of the Mr. Coffee One-Touch. It’s made of lighter materials, so it’s a little more plastic, and you really have to hold it in place when you put your portafilter in place. But other than that, it will still steam your milk for you (with a small container that you keep in the fridge). It frothed the milk more than our writer Jeff Van Camp liked, but if you’re a fan of froth (like me), it’s a good choice.
Grinder & Kettle Deals

It’s lightweight for a burr grinder and small enough for a small side table. Since I’ve been using it, the Opus (9/10, WIRED recommends) has ground hundreds of espressos perfectly. The cutters need to be cleaned a little more often than other grinders I’ve tested, but it’s quick and easy to do. Simply twist the hopper and pull it out, remove the top burr, sweep the bottom burrs and you’re done.
Fellow’s Ode Grinder is a special coffee grinder, for which I have a lot of affection. It looks like an absolute tank, and its flat burrs grind the most consistent coffee I’ve ever seen. Flat burr grinders are generally expensive, especially those that can give you a grind fine enough for an espresso machine. This one does not grind coffee for espresso, it grinds it explicitly for all other coffee preparation methods. Drip, pour over, cold brew, French press, you name it. Because the grounds are so consistent, your coffee will be too, and you’ll get very rich flavors from your beans that a conical burr grinder might not provide.
The Stagg EKG Pro is a sleek and beautiful electric kettle. It features a gooseneck spout to precisely control your pour, making it the perfect choice for pouring enthusiasts. To adjust the water temperature, turn a small knob while the OLED screen next to it displays the temperature (it can keep it at that temperature for up to an hour). I put this kettle through hell. This was one of the few items I took with me on an extended hotel stay this summer as I moved to Seattle. Even plugged into a wall outlet on the floor of my hotel room, it brewed my water at the perfect temperature for a delicious taste of home while I was between houses. It also offers all sorts of extras; you can program the kettle to reach a set temperature at a set time, adjust your altitude settings and it even has a handy guide mode to help you work out what temperature you should use for different drinks.
This is the non-Pro model of the Stagg EKG electric kettle, but it’s still one of my favorites. It doesn’t have the extra features of the Pro version, but it’s still a solid kettle with a long gooseneck that can offer the precise control you need for a good pour.

Partners Coffee’s Brooklyn blend is one of my all-time favorites. I get excited every time he shows up at my door. It has a rich, full-bodied flavor that is just round and smooth on the palate. I don’t know how to describe the taste of roundness, but trust me, this coffee tastes deliciously round. Circular even. This offer is good for a four-pound bag of coffee.
When you test coffee and coffee machines for a living, you truly become a fan of good decaf, and that’s exactly what Partners Ghost Town Decaf is. This is one of the first fully decaffeinated coffees I ever drank and I really couldn’t tell the difference between it and regular coffee. I still find myself going back to check the bag to make sure I’m grinding the right coffee. It is rich, warm and has very light toasted notes that do not overpower the hint of a floral finish.
Atlas is one of our favorite coffee subscription services. It offers a wide variety of excellent coffees, which can suit all tastes. Honestly, I have yet to try a bag that I didn’t like. This deal is actually for a free bag of coffee. Simply pay the shipping costs. You can pair it with a full membership or an extra bag to get two for one, but what’s better than free?
The Atmos Vacuum Canister is an airtight canister that you can use to store coffee beans or other food products that would benefit from an anaerobic environment. You just fill it up, put the lid on, give it a bunch of turns until the little button on the top clicks in and you’re good to go.
A new choice in some of our coffee guides, the Tally Pro is the MacBook Pro of kitchen scales. It’s solid, heavy, made of metal and glass, and every dial and button feels like it’s been deliberately tuned to provide a nice tactile experience. Like the Stagg EKG Pro, the Tally Pro has an OLED display next to the control wheel to help you navigate the scale’s different modes, units of measurement, and useful tools, like the assist mode. infusion to help you time your pour correctly.
Deals on Coffee Cups and Spills
The Ember Mug is for anyone who has ever forgotten a cup of coffee or tea until it was almost painfully cold and promised themselves they wouldn’t forget it next time…only to do exactly that. It’s a mug with a built-in heating element and a useful app. Yes, it’s a mug with an app. Does a mug need an app? Not really. But it’s pretty fun. The Ember mug can keep your drink hot for approximately 70-80 minutes, depending on your heat setting. It can also warm up a cold drink, a feature I use a lot.
The Carter Carry Tumbler is adorable. It’s smooth, with a matte finish on the outside, and the lid has a sturdy metal bar that makes it easy to open. This is actually a more important feature than you think. During testing, I found that other cups and water bottles with narrow lids and nowhere to grip require much more wrist strength to open. This can be a problem for some people, especially if you suffer from carpal tunnel. The wide handle on this tumbler means you don’t have to twist as hard to get the leverage you need to open it. Inside, it has a ceramic coating that keeps your drink from having a weird flavor, and it also includes a little splash guard to make sure you don’t burn your lips when you’re on the go .
The Stagg At 700 milliliters, it’s smaller than most Chemex pour-over jugs, but if you’re only brewing for one or two, it’s a perfect size.
