Just as you would spend more time preparing your space before starting a painting job, a little preparation before cleaning windows can reduce the amount of scrubbing you will need to do.
Before taking out the cleaning solution, take out the vacuum cleaner. If you have a space-saving handheld vacuum or an apartment-friendly dusting brush, now is the time to put it into action. Vacuum (or sweep) everything around the window, including the corners, screens, and window sill.
While vacuuming won’t help clean water spots, mineral deposits, and dirt from glass, it will help prevent accumulated dust and debris around the window frame from leaving streaks (or worse , scratch) the glass while you are cleaning.
Use a cotton swab dipped in a little white vinegar to clean out any dirt hidden in the corners.
If your apartment windows have blinds or curtains, remove them before cleaning – and maybe vacuum them, too.
